If you are having trouble getting a macro to work, this may be a possible reason:

/skill skillname doesn't work if the name of the skill has an apostrophe (like the priest spell Heaven's Judgement I). You can workaround it by calling it with the /quickbar # # # command, since that goes by position on the hotbars and doesn't rely on exact skill names being recognized. /quickbar is kinda hard to explain, /quickbar 1 1 2 would be base quickbar, 1st row, 2nd position.
